Colorado Eagles

Jean-Luc Foudy lost the momentum for the Eagles and they let the game slip away against the Firebirds. Loveland, CO — The Colorado Eagles wrapped up the six-game home stand against the Coachella Valley Firebirds (SEA). Last night, the Eagles clawed back from two goals down to blow the Firebirds away in a 6–4 victory. Forward T.J. Tynan came into the game on a four-game point streak in which he has one goal and four assists. He would extend the streak with another assist this afternoon. But that was not enough to hold off the will of the Firebirds as they fought back for a late 4–2 victory. Here are my takeaways from the Eagles' loss to the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

Takeaways
Colorado did a great job of shutting down the perimeter today. Anytime the Firebirds went near the walls, the Eagles were hitting them to slow them down. Most of the chances the Firebirds had come from the perimeter or the blue line. The first goal that Coachella Valley scored was from the point and through traffic. If the Eagles can keep this type of play up for the rest of the year, they will be a hard team to beat.

The Eagles played a great shutdown game until about five minutes left in the third period when things fell apart. Jean-Luc Foudy took a tripping penalty, and he knew it right away. Coachella Valley won the first face-off and walked around the corner to tie the game. Not even two minutes later, Mark Senden went to the penalty box for high-sticking. The Firebirds converted on this power play as well to put themselves up by two and seal the victory. Normally, Colorado is excellent at the penalty kill at home, sitting third in the league at 88.2 percent. Tonight, Coachella Valley converted two out of five and that was the difference in the game.

“We’d say we’ll take it,” said head coach Aaron Schneekloth. “Obviously, losing in the fashion we lost this afternoon stings. And you want to feel you’ve got a mature enough team where you can lock down a lead like that with five minutes after the game.”

Maros Jedlicka has been impressive so far this season. He has five points (3g/2a) in 13 games. He has been using his 6-foot-3 frame to get in front of the net and fight for the puck. His goal last night was from waiting around the crease and scooping up the rebound. His vision and shooting accuracy have continued to improve with every game. He could easily be a top-six AHL forward next season with a bit of work.
Upcoming
The Eagles will head out on the road to play the Henderson Silver Knights (VGK) on Friday, January 24 at 8 p.m. MT at the Lee’s Family Forum....
