Joe Sakic was named the NHL's general manager of the year at the 2022 NHL Draft, following a season in which he oversaw a Stanley Cup champion. The award, which is chosen by the general managers and a panel of executives and media on a vote held after the second-round of the NHL playoffs, is named after the late Jim Gregory, who served in a variety of executive roles over more than four decades in the NHL. Sakic led the Avalanche to the best regular season record in franchise history, with a 56-19-7 mark that was first in the Western Conference and second overall.
