3 Dallas Stars Who Will Regress In 2024-25

2 weeks ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

The Dallas Stars have an excellent mix of young and veteran talent on the team, but as the younger players get better and earn more time, the veterans' ice time and responsibilities are going to slowly dwindle. This started last season as some rookies made their debuts, but should ramp up a little more as those players are full time members of the team this time around.Jamie BennIt looked like Jamie Benn had fallen off in 2021-22, but then bounced back in a big way and made a huge impact for the Stars. His numbers dropped last season because of all the talent on the team. I see that happening slightly more this season as he is on the third line and expected to play with young players. He may be set for more of a mentor role even though he can still produce. His ice time has dropped in each of the past four seasons and it will be tough for him to reach 60 points again from where he's playing.Evgenii DadonovA similar outcome should happen for Evgenii Dadonov this season, but instead of the third line, he will likely get most of his playing time on the fourth line. The Stars' forward group is very deep and while the team is trying to win now, they are also looking to remain a top team for a long time. Dadonov is in the final year of his contract and scored 12 goals and 23 points in 51 games last season. From where he's playing, it's hard to see him top 20 goals, which he was on pace for in a full season in 2023-24.Tyler SeguinTyler Seguin is also a part of that veteran group in Dallas that is slowly regressing. He has hovered around 20-25 goals and 50 points for three seasons now, playing fewer games each season. He scored 25 goals and 52 points in 68 games last season, meaning he had an uptick in performance from his prior seasons. That is likely to drop back down just a little bit, even with Joe Pavelski gone, as Seguin still won't be on the top power play to boost his numbers.Photo credit: © Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports...
