The fourth line or “Identity Line” has been a staple of the New York Islanders and their recent success. In the last two seasons, the fourth line has started to age and, more importantly, decline to the point where they have been a liability at times for the Islanders. The Islanders’ fourth line will have to change after this season and as a result, this year can, and will, be a transition. The Islanders’ fourth line almost seems like a thing of the past, a checking line that doesn’t provide value in the modern game.
