NHL Rumors: 3 New Intriguing Trade Fits Proposed For Trevor Zegras

5 months ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

The future of Trevor Zegras in Anaheim remains a mystery this offseason. Rumors of a trade have been swirling since back in March, but so far the Ducks have been hesitant to pull the trigger on the talented center and former Calder Trophy runner-up. And while teams like the Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators have been snooping around for a while to check on Zegras, today we present three new intriguing potential destinations, as posited by Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report. Chicago BlackhawksThis one seems like a natural fit. Even though we've heard word that Chicago wants to ramp up its ascension back to respectability with a proven veteran or two, the Blackhawks should be in the business of acquiring young talent right now at these early stages of their rebuild. With Connor Bedard in place, and the No. 2 pick in this year's Draft coming soon, imagine adding the dynamic offensive skill of Zegras to that lineup. His age (23) is still right on mark with the Chicago timeline, and he'll have the freedom to build on his two previous 23-goal seasons, after going through a difficult and disappointing injury-riddled year in 2023-24. Washington CapitalsThe Capitals could use some dynamic talent at center to slot into the top-six, to add to the consistently reliable Dylan Strome. Connor McMichael is an ideal 3C right now. With Alex Ovechkin coming closer to the end, having a young game-breaker on offense to take over the reins in the future is something the Caps should be looking at, as Gretz notes. Boston BruinsOk, so this one is a bit of a stretch. Yes, the Bruins are still looking at adding new life to their center ranks after the Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci retirements last year. But Zegras doesn't quite fit the Bruins' style of defense-first and two-way play. Could they be looking at taking a chance that they could reform Zegras into their style while still taking advantage of that boatload of talent he owns? There's no telling yet how the Ducks will go forward with Zegras, but the disappointment of his 6-goal, 31-game season still lingers this summer.Photo: © Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports...
