Moving Tyler Bertuzzi?
Eric Duhatschek of The Athletic opens his mail bag...
How likely is it Tyler Bertuzzi’s vaccine status results in him being moved? His trade value probably couldn’t get any higher based on his play. Is the interest from other teams diminished due to his unwillingness to get vaccinated?
This assumes a few things: 1. That the Red Wings would move Bertuzzi; 2. That if he’s available, somebody would be prepared to pay a premium to get him, which is the only way I see it happening, because he’s having an effective year, despite the vaccine distraction. If you’re a team inquiring after Bertuzzi, you’re going in with eyes wide open.
It probably would disincentivize a Canadian team from going after him, because of the frequent border crossings. Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver are going to miss the playoffs and Winnipeg probably will as well. By fall, vaccine status might not matter anymore. Never say never with Yzerman at the helm — few saw the Anthony Mantha for Jakub Vrana deal coming last year — but I don’t see the Red Wings moving on from Bertuzzi.
