Elizabeth Giguere Transfers to Minnesota Duluth

The University of Minnesota Duluth announced on Wednesday that Clarkson super senior Elizabeth Giguere will transfer to play her final season of eligibility for the Bulldogs.
Giguere is already a legend in women’s college hockey. In 2018, she scored the overtime game-winning goal in the national championship game to lead Clarkson to a national title. In 2020, she was named the Patty Kazmaier Award winner as the top player in women’s college hockey. In all, Giguere has scored 233 career points in 137 games played, which puts her 18th on the NCAA women’s career scoring list since the NCAA began sponsoring the sport in 2001.
It’s a big addition for the Bulldogs, who are coming off a season in which they made the Frozen Four for the first time since 2010. The Bulldogs return their top two forwards in super senior Anna Klein, who opted to use her extra Covid year at UMD, and senior Gabbie Hughes. The addition of Giguere to that group could make for the best in college hockey next season. The Bulldogs did lose top defenseman Ashton Bell to the Canadian Olympic centralization, but with Ohio State losing Emma Maltais to Canadian centralization and rivals Minnesota and Wisconsin likely to lose some top players as well in the Olympic year, the Bulldogs could be serious contenders for the WCHA’s league title next season....
