Robert Morris Cuts Men’s and Women’s Hockey Programs

Robert Morris University announced on Wednesday that the school will no longer field Division I men’s and women’s hockey programs.
The school’s release contains a steaming pile of business jargon that essentially translates to, they didn’t feel like paying for the programs anymore. The cuts were announced at an annual retreat for the school’s Board of Trustees.
Robert Morris’ men’s program had competed at the D-1 level since 2004-2005, first as a member of College Hockey America, before transitioning to Atlantic Hockey when the CHA collapsed. They won two Atlantic Hockey regular season titles and appeared in the 2014 NCAA Tournament after winning the Atlantic Hockey conference tournament.
The women’s program also competed at the D-1 level since 2004-2005, as a member of College Hockey America. The Colonials won three straight CHA titles from 2017-2019, and appeared in this year’s NCAA Tournament, the second bid in school history.
The school said they would continue to honor all scholarships currently held by players, and all players are eligible to transfer immediately without penalty due to their school dropping the sport....
