3 Offseason Targets For Washington Capitals

14 hours ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

The only thing the Washington Capitals really need to add in the offseason is some forwards to help with the depth that will be leaving. The team did a great job making big changes in the offseason and bringing in the right pieces, but that was their big swing that has worked out. With many of them signed for multiple years, there isn't a need or space to do that again this summer.Taylor HallTaylor Hall proved that he can still play at a high level and be impactful. He isn't the player he once was, but he popped off for lots of goals and points once the Carolina Hurricanes acquired him. If Carolina doesn't bring him back, Washington will be looking for some players to sign to shorter deals while many of their prospects work their way into the NHL. Hall would have a spot on the third line and second power-play unit and I don't doubt he would play up to expectations in that role.Marcus JohanssonWhy shouldn't the Capitals bring Marcus Johansson back for a third go? He has always been good for the team when he has played in Washington. While he is a veteran and is on the back nine of his career, he still produced at a good rate for his role on the Minnesota Wild this season. Johansson had 11 goals and 34 points in 72 games and could be between the third and fourth line for the Capitals on a cheap deal where they know what they're getting. It is a lower risk add around the edges and the two sides are familiar and have liked their time together.Yanni GourdeYanni Gourde fits the hard hitting style the Capitals play and there will be a need for a third line center once Lars Eller leaves in the offseason. Gourde can provide offense and solid two-way play and is a proven winner. The Capitals made a lot of great offseason additions this past summer and Gourde would be another great choice to highlight the 2025 offseason.Photo credit: © Wendell Cruz-Imagn Images...
