All is well on Broad Street again, at least for today, as the Philadelphia Flyers picked up a much-needed regulation win over the Washington Capitals
Sean Couturier announced his return to the lineup with authority by scoring the game-winning goal in the opening minute of the third period, as well as the empty net goal to seal it (and threw in an assist on Robert Hagg’s goal, yes Hagg scored, for good measure).
Scott Laughton netted a hat trick, and James van Riemsdyk continued his quest for the Art Ross and Hart Trophies by scoring his 7th goal and eleventh assist of the season.
Are there still areas of concern for this team? Absolutely!
But on Sunday, in a nationally televised Super Bowl appetizer, the orange and black gave everybody a glimpse of their potential by beating the Caps, despite a 2G, 2A, highlight-filled performance by some guy named Alex Ovechkin.
Philly’s depth shone through, and gave everybody a little hope that maybe a few blown leads in the first week of February weren’t the end of the world.
