Anaheim Ducks Rumors: Gibson Being Traded To Contender
There has been talk for a few years now that John Gibson's time in Anaheim would come to and end before his contract is over. The Anaheim Ducks have been rebuilding for a number of years and had a very poor season this year, proving that they aren't as close as they had originally hoped to competing again. In that case, a decision seems to finally be made about Gibson as it would benefit both the team and player if he were to move on to another team. Bruce Garrioch reported that the Ducks would like to shed Gibson's contract and he wants to go to a contender. As Gibson hasn't enjoyed going through a rebuild and his numbers have suffered immensely because of it, he is going to be traded this offseason.Gibson is still in the prime of his career, and even though the Ducks being at the bottom of the standings has overshadowed that the past few seasons, any team would benefit from having him as their starter. It looks like there is going to be a fair bit of goalie movement this offseason as many teams who are competitive will be looking for a new starter in the offseason.Gibson's contract isn't great, but it also isn't horrible if the team that trades for him can get what the Ducks got out of him at the start of his career. $6.4 million AAV for four more years provides security and the goaltender has some say in where he ends up with a 10-team no-trade clause.Photo credit: © Gary A.
