Eagles Takeaways: Colorado special teams shoot blanks in loss to Abbotsford
Abbotsford Canucks
The Colorado Eagles failed to convert eight chances on the power play in the 6–1 loss to the Abbotsford Canucks. The Colorado Eagles hit the road once again for a two-game set in Canada against the Abbotsford Canucks (VAN). This series could easily determine who will walk away in fourth place on Sunday. Colorado leads Abbotsford by just three points in the Pacific Division.
The Eagles continue to win games despite not having some of their best players in the lineup. Jean-Luc Foudy, Ondrej Pavel, and Jason Polin are out with lower-body injuries while Matt Stienburg is out with an upper-body injury. This is a similar issue to the one with the Colorado Avalanche. Their top talent is down with injuries. The Eagles will rely on their intelligence to defeat their division rival this weekend.
Takeaways
During the first period, Colorado failed to push the forwards out past the dots. This gave Abbotsford the shooting lanes and led to increased pressure on goaltender Trent Miner. The Canucks could get the puck lower in the zone and make it a high-danger chance.

The Eagles had to play almost the entire first period without captain Jayson Megna. About four minutes into the period, Chase Woulters hit Megna with a knee-on-knee hit, forcing Megna to leave for the period. He would come back for the start of the second, but there was a worry of a lasting injury.
Colorado had four chances in the second period on the power play and could not convert. They were getting the shots on net. The problem was goaltender Ty Young. Nothing was getting past him except a puck that was passed from behind the net by Maros Jedlicka to Tye Felhaber. With failing to convert eight power play chances in the game, the Eagles lost 6–1.
Tye Felhaber continues to be hot, scoring his 7th of the year. Assist comes from Maros Jedlicka, his first point in the AHL. #Avs #GoAvsGo #EaglesCountry @MileHighHockey pic.twitter.com/xpd5KilSf9— Brennan Vogt (@brennan_vogt) December 8, 2024
