Islanders vs. Red Wings: Liam Foudy gets the call

The Isles begin life without Anthony Duclair. The Islanders continue their five-game homecooking stand (there’s a Newark game in the middle) as the Detroit Red Wings visit Long Island.
The big news for the Isles is the absence of Anthony Duclair, out “long term” with a lower body injury, and who they’ve recalled to replace him. Offseason depth addition Liam Foudy will make his Islanders debut and become the first guy not named Josh Bailey to wear #12 since 2008 and the late Chris Simon.
The speedy Foudy impressed in training camp and has registered four assists in Bridgeport, so he was one of the prime candidates for a callup like this should it be needed. He also has 102 games of prior NHL experience with Columbus and Nashville.
Patrick Roy will start Foudy off on the odd fourth line with Kyle MacLean and Oliver Wahlstrom, while Casey Cizikas moves up alongside J-G Pageau and Anders Lee, and Simon Holmstrom takes Duclair’s spot on the top line with Bo Horvat and Mat Barzal. Not how they drew it up in the offseason, but so it goes.
Tonight
The Red Wings arrive in Year 23 of the Yzerplan (or so it feels) and have assembled a lot of offensive firepower with Alex DeBrincat, Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond as well as old men Patrick Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko.
Ah, but at the other end, they’ve already killed one of their goalies, Ville Husso and his $3.6 million cap hit. Detroit waived Husso after he allowed four goals in 25 minutes in his only appearance. So they are going with the tandem of Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon, who is set to start opposite Ilya Sorokin tonight.
Two of their three losses were to the Rangers in a home and home, so good job by them there.
