The longevity of this series is something no fan wants. The Colorado Avalanche keep getting hurt, which means this series keeps on rolling. For the third time this season, it’s time for yet another injury update. Five players make this edition; here are your updates on them - or lack thereof.
Ross Colton
Perhaps the most anticipated returnee from this list is Ross Colton. He’s been out with a broken foot ever since blocking a shot back in October after his hot start. However, we are approaching the 6-8-week timeline of recovery for Colton’s possible return.
He did just recently skate before a morning skate just to get a feel of things. However, he needs time to get conditioned and into game form, and still likely won’t return for another week or two. His return will certainly be welcomed with several other absences, and the possibility of more to come.

Miles Wood
Miles Wood was a surprise addition to Injured Reserve on Thanksgiving but has since been downgraded to month-to-month before the start of the Edmonton Oilers game this last Saturday. It has been noted as an upper-body injury.
Wood will likely join the LTIR at this rate depending on how many months he is out for. It also seems like a scary and unknown situation, and it will certainly be one to watch later on down the line. Hopefully, he can fully recover from whatever the issue is because he has a lot of term left on that contract.

Jonathan Drouin
Jonathan Drouin had seemingly found his step after being injured on Opening Night against the Vegas Golden Knights. After just four more games, it was announced he’d be out week-to-week with an upper-body injury.
Unfortunately for him, it was also revealed the injury was a re-aggravation of the original one he received on the hit in Las Vegas. His true “start” to the season will have to come perhaps in the new year when he is truly fully healthy.

Josh Manson
Josh Manson is one of the newest members to join this list, as he was part of a big hit along the boards against the Dallas Stars. What looked to be a meaningless hit was far from it, as he immediately shook his glove off and rushed down the tunnel. He has been listed as week-to-week.
This makes the defense even more thin with another injury on the blue line being shared shortly. He’s also been consistent for most of this season, something the Avs have been desperate for. Hence, the team will have to find consistency elsewhere for the time being.
Bednar tells @ConorMcGahey on @AltitudeSR that Josh Manson is still being evaluated for a timeline.Unfortunately, bad news for Miles Wood who is month-to-month. He will miss a "significant amount of time."— Evan Rawal (@evanrawal) December 1, 2024
Oliver Kylington
The other blue liner who is hurt is Oliver Kylington. He had been scratched the last few games but was just recently announced he’d be out day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
Kylington had looked like a hockey player again after a sluggish start to the season, even scoring an insurance goal against the Florida Panthers. While he isn’t a regular in the lineup, it means the only other blue liner left on the roster is John Ludvig. Kylington will hopefully have a quick recovery and be an option again down the line.

Gabriel Landeskog
Finally, the longest-tenured player on this list remains to be the captain, Gabriel Landeskog. Since the last edition of this series in early November, it was revealed he had some sort of setback, even if they didn’t want to call it that. He had reportedly been taking time off the ice, and not doing much work elsewhere.
But less than a week after these rumblings, Landeskog was back out skating before morning skate, helping warm up the goaltenders. However, he certainly was not as involved and not skating as hard as he was when he was partaking in team drills during morning skates in May during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Ever since this appearance, he has not been spotted on the ice. Who knows what’s going on in the shadows, but hopefully Landeskog is continuing to work and not having any sort of issues. Again, don’t expect him back any time soon, based on his health and the lack of cap space available for him.
