Islanders News: Another important extension done as August descends

Brendan Burke ain’t going anywhere. Also, we still have over a month until training camp. The offseason rolled into August yesterday; we’re about halfway through life without hockey in 2024. But we’ve still got a whole month to kill.
It doesn’t affect the on-ice product, but the universe of the New York Islanders celebrated another big contract extension this week: MSG play-by-play announcer Brendan Burke will be back at least for his ninth season calling Islanders games.

Jeff Marek got pulled from Sportsnet’s draft coverage after night one and went dark. Then it was announced he and the network had parted ways. Now it appears it was because he had been revealing “proprietary information,” basically the draft selections, which couldn’t be bet on when he released them to his friend for tweeting purposes. I rag on Marek a lot, but he and Elliotte Friedman had a good thing going on 32 Thoughts. Hope he lands elsewhere. [The Athletic]
