NHL Rumors: Former Senators Coach Looking For NHL Job

2 years ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

Former head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning and most recently the Ottawa Senators appears to be looking to get back to coaching in the NHL per Pierre LeBrun. Guy Boucher last coached in the NHL in 2019 when he was fired from the 31st place Senators. He has had two stints as a head coach from 2010-13 for the Lightning and 2016-19 for the Senators. Both tenures started with Conference Finals appearances followed by missing the playoffs and being fired the third season. Between NHL head coaching stints Boucher coached in Switzerland for SC Bern where he won the 2014-15 Swiss Cup in his first season. He was fired the following November after the team started the season poorly. He has 191 wins, 187 losses, and 46 overtime losses in his coaching career with a .595 win percentage in the playoffs in the NHL. Teams looking for a short-term option as a head coach may consider him for their head coaching vacancy as he tends to start with a bang everywhere he goes. There are many teams interviewing for head coaches and a number of candidates out there, but the bit of success Boucher has had could give him an advantage. There will surely be assistant coaching positions available to him if he doesn't land a head coaching job this summer to allow himself to bide his time and work his way back up.Photo credit: © Marc DesRosiers-USA TODAY Sports...
