from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,

- The only way you can blame Dave Tippett for all that has gone wrong with the Oilers is if he happens to be playing goal most nights. Scotty Bowman couldn’t win with Mikko Koskinen in goal.

- Mike Gillis’ name is being kicked around as the next leader of the NHL Players’ Association. The players have a terrible history of choosing leaders so Gillis would fit right in there.

- The best defencemen I’ve ever seen are Orr and Nick Lidstrom. But after that, in whatever order you choose, I have to include Denis Potvin, Larry Robinson, Pronger, Scott Niedermayer, Raymond Bourque and Chris Chelios. And just after that: Serge Savard, Paul Coffey, Brad Park and Borje Salming.

- That Jim Matheson-Draisaitl brouhaha of insignificance in Edmonton is what happens when conversations stop happening in dressing rooms between players and reporters and personal relationships don’t develop. Some of the best relationships I’ve built over the years started with some kind of mishap that needed an explanation. Unfortunately, in COVID times, there is no avenue for those conversations anymore.
