San Jose Sharks Sign Their New RFA Goalie To A 2-Year Deal

After buying out their mainstay netminder Martin Jones this summer, San Jose has signed 25-year old goalie Adin Hill to a 2-year contract, avoiding an arbitration hearing in the process. Hill will spend his time in San Jose as part of a goalie tandem with Johnathan Bernier. He will be a UFA when his current contract expires.Hill was drafted 76th overall by the Arizona Coyotes in 2015. The B.C. native made his NHL debut just two years later, playing 4 games for Arizona in 2017-2018. Since then, Hill has been a third-string goalie behind Antti Raanta and Darcy Kuemper, consistently getting promoted to backup duties when one of the two inevitably went down with injuries. Hill's numbers have been steadily improving as he's gotten more NHL starts, finishing last season with a 2.74 GAA and a .914sv% in 19 games and adding two shutouts to his totals. Hill has never started more than 20 games in a season though, and his workload will surely be going up with in San Jose.The Sharks have landed themselves a young goaltender with lots of upside to fill the void left by Martin Jones, who had been with the team since being acquired in a trade with the Bruins for Sean Kuraly. Hill is still rounding into form as an NHLer, but he has the experienced Jonathan Bernier to fall back on if needed.
