Bruins Announce The Futures Of Don Sweeney & Cam Neely With The Team
Despite a disastrous 2024-25 season that saw the Boston Bruins finish last in the Eastern Conference with a 33-39-10 record and miss the playoffs for the first time in nine years, team president Cam Neely and general manager Don Sweeney will remain in their positions. Reports from multiple insiders, including Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, confirm that the Bruins are not planning any front office changes. “Sources say no changes are expected in Bruins front office. Both Don Sweeney and Cam Neely have been in lockstep, hard at work on the next iteration of the club,” Seravalli reported.Sources say no changes are expected in #NHLBruins front office. The decision has not sat well with many fans, especially after CEO Charlie Jacobs told The Boston Globe he couldn’t understand why there were calls for Neely and Sweeney to be fired. “It’s hard for me to wrap my head around why people call for their heads,” Jacobs said. That comment sparked frustration from a fanbase still reeling from years of questionable decisions, including the failed 2015 draft, underwhelming free agent signings like Elias Lindholm, and the lack of a long-term plan at center following the retirements of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci. One more mistake by Don Sweeney and he should be removed as GM IMO. While the Bruins will head into the offseason with major holes to fill, especially at coach and across the roster, management has been tasked with steering the team through a transitional phase rather than being replaced. With veterans like David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy, and Jeremy Swayman still under contract, the front office is expected to build around them. But with limited prospect depth and several recent misfires, there’s skepticism about whether Neely and Sweeney are the right duo to lead the next phase of Bruins hockey.Photo Credit: Stephen R.
