Rangers Possibly In The Market For New Head Coach This Summer
The New York Rangers have fallen very short of expectations this season after taking home the Presidents' Trophy last season. The team is likely going to miss the playoffs and a lot has gone wrong. It appears as though head coach Peter Laviolette has pretty much given up on the season based on his recent comments and the Rangers should take that as a sign to get a new man behind the bench. It's not uncommon for multiple coaches to be fired each season. A number have already been fired since the start of the 2024-25 season. Other teams wait until the regular season ends, and this is the perfect time for the Rangers to get a new voice behind the bench ahead of a big offseason and next season where the team expects to be a lot better.Laviolette was asked what his message for the room was after a tough 5-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, and he responded with "I don't have a message right now. I don't go into the locker room after the game." This seems like something coaches don't typically do, especially after a bad defeat in a key game this close to the end of the season.Whether Laviolette feels like he will be moving on next season or is somewhat forcing the issue, he does tend to wear on players that he coaches. His teams do well at the start and then there starts to be some problems. I'm not saying this season was his fault as there was a lot of other stuff going on, but I do think both sides need a change. There are some great options to take over behind the bench in New York and many that would love the opportunity. The Rangers have great pieces and can still be a very competitive team. Even with all of the moves made over the last year, the core is strong, albeit a little older. The Rangers have to win before more of their veterans start to decline.Photo credit: © Danny Wild-Imagn Images...
