NHL Exec Claims There's a 99% Chance Blues Will Look to Trade Binnington

Needless to say, Jordan Binnington stepped up big-time for Team Canada, standing on his head for the goaltending performance that they needed to come out with the thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over Team USA and the 4 Nations Face-Off title. The St. Louis Blues' goaltender has been up and down since his Stanley Cup-winning days in 2019, as his save percentage has fluctuated in and around the .900 mark in recent seasons, this year sitting at .897 for the struggling Blues. St. Louis GM Doug Armstrong is not one to miss an opportunity to shake things up, and that has led to some speculation that he could pounce on Binnington's suddenly renewed status as a big-game goalie, in order to peddle him to a playoff team by the trade deadline. In fact, according to insider Darren Dreger, speaking with Ray Ferraro on their Ray & Dregs podcast, one NHL executive thinks that is a certainty."Here is my trade speculation…"In the @rayanddregs podcast, @rayferraro21 & @DarrenDreger wonder if - given the Blues' willingness to consider other trade options – they would entertain interest in Jordan Binnington after his #4Nations performance: https://t.co/vpc94jBKNY pic.twitter.com/GAAHKFkWqL— TSN Hockey (@TSNHockey) February 21, 2025  I get a text from (an NHL) club exec... saying 'What do you think the percentage is that Army parlays this Jordan Binnington success? He's already cut loose Brandon Saad with a mutual contract termination, and there have been rumors recently that he's willing to really shake things up by trading his captain Brayden Schenn. So should it surprise anyone that he'd pounce on this golden opportunity to trade Binnington?"If you're willing to listen on your captain Brayden Schenn, which we know Armstrong has been doing, there are teams out there that could use that quality of playoff goaltending that we saw in the championship final from Jordan Binnington," added Dreger.Ferraro agreed as far as what Armstrong might try to do. "I know Doug a little bit. He's not scared. He's bold, he's aggressive. In the place St. Louis is in, everything has to be discussed".The Blues are having another disappointing season, sitting in 6th place in the Central Division, and eight points out of a Wild Card playoff berth. Changes are on the horizon over the next two weeks. And after that emphatic announcement from Binnington that he is still able to raise his game to a championship caliber, he could be one of the next to go. The Edmonton Oilers are one team that should be watched on this front. ...
