NHL Teams Looking For A Steal Should Call The Blues About Calle Rosen

1 year ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

The St. Louis Blues have one of the deepest defensive groups in the league, but they are without any star power. While the top-four is locked in and virtually unmovable due to no-trade clauses, it leaves little room for as many depth defenders as they have to get a fair shake. The Blues turned over their lineup as much as they could last season and a lot of new and younger faces have come in. On defense in particular, Tyler Tucker and Scott Perunovich have made the team and should see a decent amount of time in games this season. The team currently has eight defensemen on the roster and that is without one defenseman in particular that has played well every time he's been given a chance in St. Louis, Calle Rosen. He was cut from training camp this season, and I believe it is because they didn't want to lose Tucker or Perunovich, but also because the team has more loyalty to Robert Bortuzzo.Either way, Rosen is in the minors and could be a really solid sixth/seventh defenseman on a team looking for some offense from a player on a cheap contract and someone who doesn't need a lot of ice time to contribute. The 29-year-old has only played 87 career NHL games and 49 of them came last season with the Blues. He scored eight goals and 18 points while being a plus-19 on a minus-38 team. He did this while averaging under 16 minutes per game of ice time. Rosen has lots of pro experience, is clearly effective, and has a cap hit of just $762,500 AAV. Teams should be looking at him if they find themselves in a tough spot with injuries this season.Photo credit: © Brian Bradshaw Sevald-USA TODAY Sports...
