Avalanche News: Huge Announcement on Gabriel Landeskog Heading Into Playoffs
Here we go, Avalanche fans. Colorado head coach Jared Bednar announced to the media on Friday that captain Gabriel Landeskog—out for nearly three years with a knee injury—is "an option" to play in Round 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.Gabe Landeskog “is an option” for the Avalanche in their first round series against the Stars, Jared Bednar just said 👀 pic.twitter.com/nMk3xCgYkq— B/R Open Ice (@BR_OpenIce) April 18, 2025When we last saw Landeskog active and on the ice with the Avalanche, he was hoisting the Stanley Cup in June of 2022. The captain's return would not only be a big boost to their lineup, but a huge emotional inspiration as well as they get set to go on what they hope will be another long playoff run. The Avs will have their hands full in the first round, facing their former star forward Mikko Rantanen and the Dallas Stars, so this massive development could be a difference maker. Avalanche beat writer Brennan Vogt said it looks like Landeskog is ready, watching him skate at practice for the 4th day in a row. Landeskog made a sudden stop on one foot, his right foot without hesitation, and immediately sped up no problem.....#Avs #GoAvsGo @HockeyMtnHighCO pic.twitter.com/OhIWhW7Ey4— Brennan Vogt (@brennan_vogt) April 18, 2025 Landeskog, now 32, played two games for the Eagles of the AHL on a conditioning stint last week, including a two-point performance (goal & assist) in the second contest, and he was officially welcomed back (with open arms) to the Avs earlier this week. He said he felt great after those first two pro games in 34 months.“Feel great. Obviously, some nerves going into it … physically, I feel great. It’s the first game in a long time, so I got plenty of things to work on and get better at, but it was a lot of fun,” Landeskog said. It's been a long and winding road, but it sounds like the Colorado Avalanche will be getting their captain back for the playoffs. Photo: © Geoff Burke-Imagn Images ...
