3 Toronto Maple Leafs Who Won't Be Back Next Season: Post Trade Deadline Fallout
The Toronto Maple Leafs have a lot of work to do in the offseason as two of their big-4 are UFAs after the season and the team is still trying to find ways to get over the hump in the playoffs. That being said, this is a good team year after year and they even added some nice pieces that are more than rentals. This will cause a shift in the roster in the offseason for sure.Mitch MarnerMitch Marner is heading towards being one of the biggest free agents ever as it becomes more and more worrisome for the Maple Leafs the longer he goes unsigned. With the young stars on Toronto, there has never not been trouble signing them to what they want. With the new GM Brad Treliving, things might be different. Marner is asking for a ton of money and with John Tavares and Matthew Knies to also worry about, the Maple Leafs might not bend. He obviously wasn't traded at the deadline because of the hopeful playoff run and more time to negotiate, but he knows that teams will be lining up to hand him a boatload of money if he hits free agency.Max PaciorettyMax Pacioretty has been decent when he has been healthy, but there lies the problem. He has become more injury prone the older he's gotten and for a contender like Toronto, it's tough to allocate money to players like that, even if they are productive for the time they are in the lineup. The Maple Leafs have solid depth players and if the team doesn't look internally for permanent filler for the left side, they will look externally. Pacioretty's five goals and 13 points doesn't pop as someone the Maple Leafs need to re-sign.Jani HakanpaaJani Hakanpaa has played just two games for the Maple Leafs this season and with all of the other defensemen on the team, there is just no space for him moving forward. He is the only free agent after this season as seven other d-men are signed for at least the next two years. With hardly any contribution to the team, it's an easy split for the two sides.Photo credit: © John E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images...
