Insider: 2 Names To Watch in Hurricanes / Canucks Miller Trade Talk

6 hours ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

JT Miller's days in Vancouver still seem numbered, even though a potential trade with the New York Rangers fell through at the last minute on Saturday. Now we're learning that the Carolina Hurricanes have entered the discussions with a flurry.Dhaliwal said the Hurricanes talk is picking up this morning with Miller.Mentions Canucks have liked Kotkaniemi and Roslovic before.@DonnieandDhali— Taj (@taj1944) January 20, 2025Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal says the Hurricanes talk "is picking up," and he names two players who Vancouver has had their eye on from Carolina, in centers Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Jack Roslovic. "24-year-old center Jesperi Kotkaniemi, he would make sense for the Canucks. They really liked him in his draft year," explained Dhaliwal.Canucks fans, however, are up in arms over the Kotkaniemi possibility. Despite his lofty draft status, he has just 19 points this season and recorded only 27 points last year as the former No. 3 overall selection in the NHL Draft (2018), is far underforming his 8-year, $38.56M ($4.82M AAV) deal. As for Roslovic, the 27-year-old is on a 30-goal pace with 17 thus far in 46 games, which would blow away his career-high. He's on a one-year, $2.8M deal."Roslovic is a player the Canucks have liked in the past, he's a UFA. When he was in Columbus the Cancuks tried to get him."Despite the Canucks' past interest in these two players, it doesn't feel like that would be enough to get a deal done for 100-point man (2023-24) JT Miller. But as Dhaliwal said repeatedly, "The Canucks aren't going to win a Miller trade. They know that... His production is down, (he's) not getting along with Pettersson, they're not in a position of strength."Photo: © James Guillory-Imagn Images ...
