Nick Robertson 'Still More Likely To Be Traded' By Maple Leafs

2 months ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

The Toronto Maple Leafs finally came to terms with RFA Nick Robertson after the only path seemed to be that he would be traded. Now that he is signed to a one-year deal, it appears as though the trade possibility hasn't went away.Frank Seravalli reported that Nick Robertson is still more likely to be traded than open the season with the Maple Leafs. The young forward has a great opportunity this season to win a spot on the left wing. Over the past two seasons the Maple Leafs have lost Tyler Bertuzzi and Michael Bunting while Max Domi is better suited to play center in Toronto. The left side of the ice is the clear weak spot in Toronto this season, but Robertson remains a trade chip as he expressed not wanting to be in Toronto for a while. Injuries have held him back and he finally earned his spot last season with 14 goals and 27 points in 56 games. Despite that, he still played nine games in the AHL for the Toronto Marlies, scoring five goals and 11 points.Robertson produced in the NHL while only averaging 11:23 per game. I can see why he didn't feel like he would get an opportunity because he split time between the AHL and NHL for four consecutive seasons, but a spot on the second line is his for the taking in 2024-25.Some wounds just aren't able to heal. Robertson and the Maple Leafs may just be one of those cases. Regardless of the opportunity that is there for the taking for the young talent, he may just be better suited on a different team and management could agree. Nothing may come of this, but expect Robertson to get an opportunity to play in the top-9 wherever he starts the season.Photo credit: © Nick Turchiaro-Imagn Images...
