Comment on Bruins Trade Chips Dealing With Deadline Uncertainty by Paul D.
Sweeney needs to move on from at least 4 to 5 players off this roster and that's just a start.
Everyone thinks that Sweeney will get a boat-load for Frederic when all he's worth in my opinion is a 3rd or 4th rounder but either way, take the draft pick or a prospect and run.
Sacco clearly doesn't seem to like Wotherspoon or Osterle but either could stay as a serviceable 7th or 8th defenseman. It comes down to Sacco still being here next season or not. If he's here, then move them for what you can get.
Sacco also doesn't seem to like Brazeau, who could certainly stand to improve but C'mon, the guy was producing with 10 goals and is the only player smart enough to plant himself around the net area. If Sacco used him correctly, like first unit power play, he'd probably have 5-6 more goals. Moving him is foolish in my view.
I think they should move on from Sacco and Chris Kelly and start fresh.
Coyle, Zacha and Carlo to me, are in the same boat for what kind of return they could bring. I see them moving Coyle but Carlo doesn't make that much that you couldn't keep him. For Zacha, it depends if they get calls about his availability.
Not sure if they still want Koepke either but they need to move on from Brown and Jones as well.
They should sign Geekie but I guess if a good offer comes in, then move him. Same for Marchand.
Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov certainly didn't look like the smartest signings and it appears they are stuck with them.
Now, I personally would move Swayman and they'd get a nice return and it would free up money to sign goal scorers. Preferably guys that are good on the power play!
If none of the first unit power plays guys are moved and they put the same five out there next season, it will render the same results. The fact that they refused to change it all season long is mind boggling.
To me, problem number one on the power play is McAvoy. Never in my life have I seen a defenseman refuse to shoot on the power play as much as him.
Even Ray Bourque discussed this during a game with Andy Brickley for about 5-6 minutes. Bourque mentioned how McAvoy needs to take control and fire away and stop choosing to pass instead.
Now, is it only McAvoy? No, so change it up! They should have swapped out at least 3 guys on PP1 to see what works and they won't.
They could have tried Brazeau, Geekie and Pasta up front and of course Hampus if healthy on D with maybe Coyle or Elias at the Point and I bet it would have produced better results than sticking with the same 5 guys who clearly don't click. They can't even enter the offensive zone without issue.
Move that high priced netminder, take in all the draft picks and prospects you can get. Try to acquire at least a few guys who can help next year's power play and penalty kill and start over....
