3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations for Martin Jones

3 weeks ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

Once Matt Murray re-signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs, after they added Anthony Stolarz, Martin Jones' days were numbered. He's remained a free-agent since and just weeks away from training camps opening, Jones' is left without a contract.Last season, the 34-year-old veteran helped save the Leafs season and posted a record of 11-8-1 with a .902 save percentage. At this point it doesn't appear Jones is heading for retirement and wants to ride out his career. Here's three teams who could wind up adding Jones before training camp:Vancouver CanucksJones is from the area, he's a perfect number three option and until the Canucks sign Kevin Lankinen instead, Jones will be linked to the team. Thatcher Demko doesn't appear to be able to start the season as he's dealing with an injury and management is currently mulling their options. It could be a PTO or it could be a two-way contract, regardless, Jones and the Canucks are a legit option.Utah Hockey ClubThere were some rumblings this summer that Utah was open to moving Karel Vejmelka, however no deal materialized. They also have Connor Ingram signed for next season, however neither goalie appears to be a lock to stick around long term. Utah has the cap space, however they have 23 of 23 NHL contracts filled. If Jones goes to the newest NHL franchise, it's likely on a PTO for training camp, but there's no doubt HC could use a third veteran goalie in their mix.Nashville PredatorsThe Preds just moved top prospect Yaroslav Askarov and while they received Magnus Chrona back in the deal, there's certainly a chance they look at adding another goalie for camp. Chrona posted a 1-6-1 record last season with the Sharks and even spent time in the ECHL. The Predators need more goaltending depth, even with Juuse Saros and Scott Wedgewood signed for next season and beyond.Photo credit: © Kim Klement Neitzel-USA TODAY Sports...
