NHL Rumors: Senators/Leafs Trade Held Up Over Medical Review

2 years ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators have been working on a trade since Friday and it involves goaltender Matt Murray landing in Toronto. Turns out the two teams have been going back and forth on a number of things, including salary retention, however the deal is being held up at the moment by medical records.I’m told there’s some solid framework elements between the @Senators and @MapleLeafs however the potential completion of this deal is largely dependent on the comprehensive up to the minute medical due diligence by TML on Matt Murray’s health . @espn @NHL #HockeyTwitter— Kevin Weekes (@KevinWeekes) July 11, 2022 Jack Campbell and Kyle Dubas met yesterday. I’m told it was was a friendly, but unproductive meeting. Nothing has changed.— Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) July 10, 2022 The Leafs continue to do their due diligence on a potential Matt Murray trade. As you would expect a full medical evaluation is part of the decision making process. Toronto and Ottawa have been going back and forth on a trade since Friday.— Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) July 11, 2022Murray has battled injuries at parts of the last few seasons, so you can't blame the Toronto for taking a second or third look. Familiarity is the biggest factor here in the Maple Leafs interest as head coach Sheldon Keefe and general manager Kyle Dubas know Murray from their days together in the Ontario Hockey League. After Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson rejected a move to Toronto, it sounds like they have turned all their attention to getting a deal for Murray completed. The contract talks with Campbell are not going well from all accounts, and the Edmonton Oilers are waiting to pounce on July 13. As for what exactly the trade between the Sens and Leafs looks like, you can bet a sweetener or two will be on the way to Toronto for them to take on this season and next on Murray's deal. He's due $6.25 million annually and last season posted a 3.05 GAA and a .906 SV%. The Maple Leafs currently don't have an NHL option in net.Photo credit:   Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports ...
