Murray makes 31 saves, Senators shut out Canucks

  • VANCOUVER -- Matt Murray made 31 saves to help the Ottawa Senators win the first of four straight games against the Vancouver Canucks, 3-0 at Rogers Arena on Thursday.
  • "I'm really proud of the way that we're growing and learning and the way that we've played the last few games and the way we're trending," Murray said.
  • Drake Batherson had a goal and an assist for the Senators (17-26-4), who have won three straight games in regulation for the first time this season and are 4-1-0 in their past five.
  • Ottawa is one point behind Vancouver but has played seven more games.
  • "It was a different game than last time we played them," Vancouver defenseman Nate Schmidt said.
  • It was the sixth straight game the Senators scored on the power play, and their seven power-play goals in that stretch is more than they scored in the previous 18 games.
  • "I mean, in the beginning we were definitely struggling, and if you have a good power play I think it always helps a lot.".
  • "It's always nice to score on the power play," Batherson said.
  • "And when you score two on the power play usually you have a good shot of winning.".
