Islanders News: Happy Easter Epic Day

Today’s Islanders celebrated one of the great moments in their history with an extra-time victory of their own. Happy Easter to those Islanders fans and Lighthouse Hockey readers that celebrate. But, if I know anything about Islanders fans, even those that do not celebrate Easter will always celebrate Easter Epic Day.
It was not this exact date 34 years ago—that is how it goes with a holiday that is a different day every year. But it was the night before Easter, and well into Easter morning, that the New York Islanders beat the Washington Capitals on the road in Game 7, thanks to Pat LaFontaine’s shot from inside the blue line.
Today’s Islanders made sure to celebrate the holiday by allowing the Philadelphia Flyers to come back in the third period; they wanted to win in extra time, too. Anthony Beauvillier scored twice, Mathew Barzal had the lone shootout goal, and Ilya Sorokin stopped most of what he saw en route to a shootout victory over the Flyers.

Yesterday’s NHL scores include the Boston Bruins toppling the Pittsburgh Penguins in a day-game offensive explosion and the Buffalo Sabres taking down the New York Rangers in a shootout. Also, the Colorado Avalanche broke the hearts of the St. Louis Blues as Cale Makar broke a 1–1 tie with less than a minute to go in regulation.
The number of Vancouver Canucks on the COVID-19 protocol list continues to grow. At last check, they were up to 14. We are all hoping for a speedy recovery. [NHL]
