New York Islanders Forward To Miss 5th Straight Game With Mysterious Injury

2 years ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

The 2021-2022 NHL season has been a disappointing one for the New York Islanders and with an 11-13-6 record, the Islanders are 18 points out of a playoff spot and just 9 points ahead of the last-place Montreal Canadiens.  A major source of their troubles has been the lack of consistency within their lineup due to injuries and COVID protocols as key players such as Brock Nelson, Ryan Pulock, and more recently Kyle Palmieri have all missed significant time.  The exact reason for Palmieri's absence is shrouded in mystery, as Stefen Rosner of NYI Hockey Now reports:There has been limited information about exactly when Palmieri suffered the injury against Boston and what has been ailing him.Kyle Palmieri has been a full participant in drills and does not seem limited at practice. He has not skated with the regulars on line rushes but with the extras each day.Palmieri did not participate in the optional morning skate on Monday. The Islanders are set to play the similarly struggling Philadelphia Flyers tonight at 7:30 PM EST, and that will mark the 5th straight game they will be without Palmieri due to a lower-body injury. Unfortunately for New York, even when he is in the lineup, the 30-year-old winger has not produced at his expected rate, especially after signing a 4-year $20 million contract this past offseason.  While Palmieri previously scored at least 24 goals per season during a recent 5-year stretch between 2015-2020, this season he has amassed just 1 goal and 7 points in 25 regular-season games, so perhaps he has been playing with this injury for a while.Stay tuned for updates on the mysterious ailment of Kyle Palmieri.Photo Credit: © Tom Horak-USA TODAY Sports...
