Right Now, Some Of The New York Rangers Players Come At A Bargain

When Adam Fox took a drop pass from Alexis Lafreniere and buried it for the first goal in a second-round series-clinching win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday, it was yet another example of the youth movement that has helped propel the New York Rangers to the doorstep of the Stanley Cup final.

As they keep proving over and over again, the kids are all right — if not drastically underpaid.

Fox, who leads all defencemen in the playoffs with 18 points in 14 games, is 24 years old. Lafreniere, who has two goals and seven points, is only 20. Five others on the Rangers are 24 or younger.

That’s another way of saying that the window on winning is far from closing for a team that only two years ago landed the No. 1 overall pick in Lafreniere. But from a purely financial perspective, New York’s chances of winning may never be as open as it is right now.

After all, aside from their collective ages, the numbers worth paying attention to when it comes to the Rangers are the ones that are preceded by a dollar sign.
