NHL Trade Rumors: Canucks Linked To Move For Predators Steven Stamkos This Offseason

1 week ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

The Vancouver Canucks are expected to pursue a second-line center this offseason, and one surprising name has emerged as a potential trade target: Steven Stamkos. According to Thomas Drance of The Athletic, the Canucks could see the former first-overall pick as a possible addition down the middle. Stamkos, now with the Nashville Predators after spending his entire career in Tampa Bay, has seen a dip in production this season, posting 47 points (25 goals, 22 assists) in 77 games. Still, Drance notes, “He’s still a lethal shooter and would bring leadership qualities to a team that could use them.”The no-look shot 🤯Steven Stamkos you are unreal pic.twitter.com/X63gKZ405z— Nashville Predators (@PredsNHL) April 4, 2025
Vancouver head coach Rick Tocchet has familiarity with Stamkos from his time on Tampa’s coaching staff, including during the sniper’s breakout 50-goal season in 2009–10. That connection, combined with the Canucks' need for more firepower—particularly if Brock Boeser departs in free agency—makes Stamkos a logical, if complicated, target. His scoring touch, especially on the power play, could provide an immediate boost to Vancouver’s top six. This is the best thing I'll see all week...Three-year-old Chase Stamkos hit the ice this morning to get in some practice with his dad, Steven Stamkos, and the @PredsNHL 🥹🥹🥹The skating? However, two major obstacles stand in the way of a potential deal: Stamkos’ full no-movement clause and his $8 million cap hit. Both would require creative maneuvering by GM Patrik Allvin. While acquiring Stamkos may be a long shot, Drance includes him among several centermen the Canucks could pursue this summer, alongside names like Sam Bennett. One way or another, Vancouver seems intent on addressing its need at center ahead of the 2025–26 season.Photo Credit: Ryan Sun-Imagn Images...
