NHL Rumors: Flyers Have 5 Untouchable Players

2 years ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer's Giana Han, Olivia Reiner, and Gus Elvin, the Philadelphia Flyers' likely untouchables are Sean Couturier, Ryan Ellis, Carter Hart, Joel Farabee, and Cam York.At this point of the season, the Flyers have a 15-22-8 record. This poor season is also happening after they made a lot of big moves during the last offseason. Therefore, we could see them embark on some sort of retooling period from here, as their current roster isn't working. However, if they do, these five should be staying. Couturier was just signed to an eight-year, $62 million contract extension, so he of course will not be traded. The longtime Flyers will likely be their next captain once Claude Giroux is gone, and it should be an easy decision. When on his game, he's one of the top two-way centers in the sport. He's the kind of leader to have during a retool/rebuild.Ellis was just acquired by the Flyers last offseason. Although he's been very good when healthy, he sadly has had a ton of injury trouble. In four games this season, he has one goal, four assists, and a plus-2 rating. Once he's healthy, the Flyers will surely want to see what he's capable of before even thinking about trading him. Hart is the goalie of the future and has had moments of excellence over his career. After a disastrous campaign last season, the 23-year-old has since turned things around. He may have a 9-14-5 record, but he also has a respectable .915 save percentage and 2.80 goals-against average. He is still so young and has a lot of potential to improve, so let's see how he performs from here. Farabee was signed to a six-year, $30 million contract this past summer, so he of course will not be traded so soon. The 21-year-old has 11 goals and seven assists in 33 games this season. Although he's producing a bit less than last season, he still has the tools to be an excellent top-six winger for years to come. As for York, the 2019 first-round pick is the kind of player they are hoping will develop into a huge part of their core. In 13 games this season with the NHL club, the defenseman has one goal and two assists. He also has eight points in 22 games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.Photo Credit: © Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports...
