Red Wings Name New Assistant General Manager
With Pat Verbeek becoming the new general manager of the Anaheim Ducks, the Detroit Red Wings needed to name a new assistant general manager. Now, they have one, as they have promoted Shawn Horcoff to the position.UPDATE: Executive vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman today announced that Shawn Horcoff has been named #RedWings assistant general manager and general manager of the Grand Rapids Griffins.Details: https://t.co/hmtPBTslFf pic.twitter.com/OQSQbPj9Vo— Detroit Red Wings (@DetroitRedWings) February 4, 2022 Horcoff has worked for the Red Wings for six years as their director of player development. With that, he also has been their assistant director of player personnel for the last three years, too. Therefore, he has been building himself a nice resume with the organization, and they are now rewarding him for it. Horcoff is another person from Detroit's management who had a lengthy NHL career, too. In 1,008 career NHL games between the Edmonton Oilers, Dallas Stars, and Anaheim Ducks, he had 186 goals, 325 assists, and 511 points. With that, he also was captain of the Oilers for three seasons. Due to his immense experience both as a player and in management, this seems like a good move by the Red Wings. One has to wonder how long it will be before Horcoff is able to land a general manager job somewhere else. If Verbeek did, he surely has the potential to as well. He will have a wonderful mentor in Steve Yzerman to learn from, too.Photo Credit: © Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports...
