NHL Trade Rumors: Insider Links Capitals & Canadiens To Big Deadline Deal
NHL insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has linked the Washington Capitals to a potential trade for Montreal Canadiens forwards Jake Evans and Joel Armia ahead of the March 7 trade deadline. Speaking on TSN Radio in Montreal, Pagnotta noted that the Capitals have cap space due to their LTIR pool and are looking to add depth up front. “They’ve got the cap space to do it,” Pagnotta said. “Brian MacLellan, their GM, has been very quiet in his pursuit, but they are looking at those options.” Evans, with a manageable $1.7 million cap hit, is seen as a strong fit, while Armia’s $3.4 million salary may require some maneuvering.Has Jake Evans priced himself out of Montreal or has he simply become too important to trade?@Lappy14: "No chance in the world I would trade Jake Evans!"#GoHabsGo #thesickpodcast @TonyMarinaro pic.twitter.com/0W37I7Hslf— The Sick Podcast with Tony Marinaro (@thesickpodcasts) February 26, 2025 The Canadiens are reportedly set on moving Evans, with The Athletic’s Arpon Basu reporting that Montreal’s asking price is at least a second-round pick. The 28-year-old has recorded 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 total points across 58 games played this season.TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reinforced that stance, saying, “I don’t think they’re interested in getting a third-round pick or a fourth-round pick for Jake Evans.” Montreal is also open to packaging Evans and Armia together in hopes of securing a first-round pick. While Armia has expressed a desire to stay in Montreal, the Canadiens remain open to maximizing their return, potentially making both players available in a deal.Of course resident Montrealer Joel Armia is in charge of planning team dinners #4Nations #GoHabsGo pic.twitter.com/eAXJXMLXzX— The Hockey News (@TheHockeyNews) February 11, 2025 The 31-year-old Armia has 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 total points over 58 games this season.Washington could see Evans and Armia as valuable additions for a playoff push. Pagnotta noted that the Capitals are also considering adding a veteran defenseman, emphasizing the importance of depth. “You can never have enough defensemen come playoff time,” he said. If discussions between the two teams progress, Montreal’s willingness to package both forwards could provide Washington with the secondary scoring they need while giving the Canadiens a strong return.Photo Credit: David Kirouac-Imagn Images...
