Washington Captials Lock Up McIlrath With Multi-Year Extension
The Washington Capitals have locked up depth defenseman and enforcer Dylan McIlrath for another two seasons, signing him to a two-year extension with an AAV of $800,000.The Washington Capitals have re-signed defenseman Dylan McIlrath to a two-year, $1.6 million contract extension. pic.twitter.com/jRDgCHzO2S— Capitals PR (@CapitalsPR) March 27, 2025This is McIlrath's fourth year in the Capitals' organization, and the 32-year-old has been a good soldier as a depth piece on the blueline, and captained the AHL's Hershey Bears to back-to-back Calder Cup championships in 2023 and 2024.In 11 games with the Caps this season, he has two points with a plus/minus rating of +1 and 14 penalty minutes, while getting an average of 10:54 of ice time in those contests. Last season with Hershey, in 58 games, the 6'5", 240-pound bruising D-man recorded nine points and a +6 rating, while compiling 100 minutes in penalties.In 192 games with Hershey over those three years, McIlrath has recorded 32 points and a +16 rating, with 301 penalty minutes.He's gotten into 20 games with Washington during his time in the organization, recording four assists. McIlrath is a former first-round pick in the 2010 NHL Draft by the New York Rangers (10th overall), but has played just 86 games total in the NHL since then.
