Both Makars are now officially signed by Colorado! After the University of Maine Black Bears were eliminated from the NCAA Frozen Four tournament, the Colorado Avalanche wasted no time. Taylor Makar has officially signed an entry-level contract for the 2025-26 season with the Avalanche. Since the ELC kicks in next season, Makar will finish out the remainder of this season on an amateur try-out, or ATO, with the Colorado Eagles in the AHL. He will join recently signed Cooper Gay in Loveland as well.

As previously mentioned, Makar just finished his NCAA season at the University of Maine, which resulted in the Black Bears’ run coming to an end at the hands of the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Frozen Four tournament. In this past season with Maine, Makar finished the season with 30 points in 38 games, totaling 18 goals and 12 assists, which tied him for first on the team in goals.
Due to his age Makar was only eligible to sign a one-year NHL contract, which was a fairly standard offer.

There’s no denying the upside that Makar possesses, and you could certainly see that upside on full display this past season with Maine. With him signing his ELC now, hopefully we’re closer to seeing him and his brother both play for the Avalanche one day.
