Owen Power, the No. 1 pick of the 2021 NHL Draft, signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Buffalo Sabres on Friday.
The 19-year-old defenseman will join the Sabres in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday, ahead of Buffalo's game at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday, and he is expected to make his NHL debut at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, general manager Kevyn Adams said.

Kent Johnson signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday that begins this season. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The 19-year-old sophomore forward from the University of Michigan was selected by the Blue Jackets with the No. 5 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. He was tied for fourth on Michigan with 37 points (eight goals, 29 assists) in 32 games.
Johnson is expected to join the Blue Jackets on Monday. Columbus plays the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday.
