Oilers' Connor McDavid Excited About Edmonton's Offseason
Connor McDavid was attending the Zach Hyman Celebrity Golf Classic on Monday and while he didn't want any of the spotlight on him, he didn't mind giving the Edmonton Oilers management group some praise. The Oilers don't currently have a general manager, meanwhile Jeff Jackson, the team's CEO of hockey operations took over in the interim and has had himself a fine offseason. Jackson was able to essentially keep the band together and also added in Viktor Arvidsson on a multi-year deal and signed Jeff Skinner to a one-year deal.McDavid spoke at the golf tournament and is very pleased with how things shook up for the Oilers this summer, after being one game away from winning the Stanley Cup:They've had a great offseason so far. It's been short, it's been hurried, but I think in the small time they've been at it, they've done great things. Keeping this many guys together is a good thing. In the salary-cap era, it's tough to do that.Jackson's moves included traded Ryan McLeod to the Buffalo Sabres for top prospect Matt Savoie and he also re-signed Mattias Janmark, Connor Brown, Corey Perry, Calvin Pickard and Adam Henrique. There's been many folks around the Edmonton area who are calling for Jackson to take over as the GM on a full-time basis but so far no confirmation that's going to take place. The Oilers look to continue their dominance next season and with Jackson's handy work this offseason, it appears there will be enough talent in Edmonton to run it back through the Western Conference.Photo credit: Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports ...
