Report: Tyson Barrie Has A "Pretty Good Understanding" With The Flames
He used to be a top-four defenseman and a power play regular, but Tyson Barrie had a rough couple of seasons with the Nashville Predators, and as we reported this week he's now been relegated to having to accept a PTO to get into an NHL camp with the Calgary Flames. But as hockey insider Pierre LeBrun told his mates on TSN Overdrive, the PTO is likely just a formality for the 13-year veteran. I think there's a pretty good understanding that as long as camp goes the way it should... I think that ends up in a deal where it'll be a bargain for the Flames, but more than the league minimum and I see him signing an NHL contract with the Flames. Barrie is only 33, and while he's never been known as the best of lock-down defenders, he can provide plenty of offense from the blueline, and he gets a chance to be another veteran voice on a rebuilding team. "I think there's some juice left there in Tyson Barrie, and I think he has a bounce-back year there in Calgary," added LeBrun. And if that comes to fruition, he'll be a nice trade piece for the Flames come the deadline. Over 13 NHL seasons, in 809 games, Barrie has 109 goals and 505 points, while averaging 21:07 of ice time per night. He hasn't cracked the 20-minute mark in a season, however, since 2020-21.
