NHL Rumors: Edmonton Oilers to Add Depth Forward

2 years ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

Reports continue to surface regarding the Edmonton Oilers and their desire to add more depth up front. While they've been linked to former Vancouver Canuck Jake Virtanen, sounds like there's a couple more options on the table for general manager Ken Holland.According to Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic, don't be surprised of the Oilers consider bringing in veteran free agent Riley Nash on a professional tryout for training camp. Edmonton doesn't have a ton of veteran centers in the mix for depth positions and Nash could fit the bill perfectly.Nugent Bowman goes on to mention: Aston-Reese, 28, is known as an excellent defensive forward and could be a useful bottom-six contributor even if he brings little in the way of offence (now signed with Toronto). Nash, 33, was picked by the Oilers 21st in 2007. He could be a right-handed centre on the fourth line, a position that’s now expected to be shared by Devin Shore and Derek Ryan.Nash spent last season between the Winnipeg Jets, Tampa Bay Lightning and Arizona Coyotes, as the 33-year-old has been busy stamping his passport. Despite playing 49 total NHL games, Nash only contributed four assists. He also appeared in 17 AHL games, recording 18 points.Photo credit:  Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports...
