Toronto Maple Leafs Re-Sign Restricted Free Agent
He was "the other" remaining restricted free agent for the Toronto Maple Leafs. 24-year-old undrafted center Alex Steeves has now been re-signed after another strong season in the Amercian Hockey League. He was an All-Star in the AHL last season, with 27 goals and 57 points in 65 games for the Marlies. 🖊 We’ve re-signed forward Alex Steeves to a one-year, two-way contract— Toronto Maple Leafs (@MapleLeafs) August 21, 2024It's a one-year, two-way contract for Steeves, at the league minimum $775,000. He'll get $300,000 at the AHL level, with an overall guarantee of $350,000.While his output with the Marlies has been strong for a few years now, he hasn't been able to catch on with the big club, playing a total of just seven games in the past three seasons with the Leafs with one assist. He's had 69 goals with the Marlies over that span, however, with 154 points in 188 games. He'll become an unrestricted free agent after the season if the Leafs don't re-sign him.Meanwhile, Nick Robertson remains the only unsigned RFA on the club, and has expressed his unhappiness with the organization this summer, suggesting he will not re-sign. Depending on what transpires with Robertson, Steeves may have himself a bit of an opening to try to prove he deserves more of a look with the big club. Photo: © David Kirouac-USA TODAY Sports...
