Oilers Trade Rumors: Edmonton Looking For Takers for Evander Kane

Evander Kane has been out all season for the Edmonton Oilers, and in fact, also missed the last five games of the Stanley Cup Finals last spring. It's been a mystery all year as to when he'll be ready to return. Now we're hearing from insider Elliotte Friedman, however, that if Kane does make it back on the ice this season, it might not be with the Oilers.Last night, Evander Kane's no-trade protection evaporated. He no longer has a full no-trade clause, it is now a partial one (16 teams)... The Oilers are going through those (available) teams, and trying to see what the market could be for him... Because if they do decide to go in that direction, they could open up more cap room for themselves.  The insider said earlier in the day that he believes a list was submitted to the Oilers by the Kane camp as to where he'd be willing to go, and to where they can't trade him without his permission. The 33-year-old still has another year to run on his $5.125 million cap hit, which currently resides on LTIR. There is still no official timeline on a return. Kane was very much hoping to come back before the regular season was out to prove that he can help the Oilers during the playoffs, reported Friedman earlier on Saturday, but the team was balking at that. "Edmonton would love it if they can hold him out until the playoffs start," for salary cap purposes. Bottom line, whether they trade him or hold him out, they're looking for the best way to maximize their (cap) flexibility.Last season, Kane notched 24 goals and 44 points in 77 games with a career-high 250 hits. In his 20 playoff games, he recorded four goals and eight points along with a rousing 64 hits, and a playoff-leading 37 penalty minutes. Photo: © Jerome Miron-Imagn Images...
