The Pittsburgh Penguins are expected to make several trades before the March 7 trade deadline, with pending free-agent defenseman Marcus Pettersson the most likely to be moved off the roster.President Kyle Dubas has been busy scouting out west, and could move Pettersson ahead of the 4 Nations Face-Off break, to give his team a chance to jump ahead of the trade market, and essentially create the market this season. Daily Faceoff's Matt Larkin posted a piece on Pettersson's future, and listed five potential trade destinations to consider as trade talks continue. Larkin lists the Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks and Winnipeg Jets as potential landing spots for Pettersson's services. The lanky blueliner has recorded three goals, and 18 points, in 47 games for the Penguins this year. He's averaging 22:02 of ice-time per game, including 2:44 on the penalty kill. Pettersson's also recorded 56 hits and has blocked 83 shots so far this year. The Canucks appear to be the most logical choice, although they have lots on the go right now trying to move J.T Miller and Elias Pettersson. Canucks management came from Pittsburgh, so they are very familiar with Pettersson's game, and Larkin cites why they could be a good fit for the Swedish defenseman:The Canucks have the necessary complement of draft picks to pursue someone like Pettersson, and while their prospect pool isn’t elite, it’s just good enough that they could conceivably mine a player to entice the Pens.Keep an eye on the Penguins and Canucks leading up to the March 7 trade deadline, they appear to align perfectly as trade partners.Photo credit: Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images ...
