Kraken Claim Forward Off Waivers
The Seattle Kraken have claimed forward Austin Czarnik off waivers from the New York Islanders. When it was announced on Monday that the Islanders placed Czarnik on waivers, it seemed like the 29-year-old would find a new home. This is because he's had a solid year offensively and only possesses a $725,000 cap hit. Thus, he is the kind of depth forward that many teams would like to have, and the Kraken took advantage of that. In 11 games this season with the Islanders, Czarnik has two goals, three assists, and a plus-5 rating. When looking at how the Kraken have played this season, there is no true risk in them taking a shot on Michigan native. He should be able to compete for a spot in their lineup. Perhaps this is the kind of move that the veteran forward needs to help become a full-time player in this league. At worst, the Kraken have added a depth forward to their roster. We should see Czarnik at least get some chances with Seattle, but especially when looking at how he performed this season with the Islanders. He also played well with the Bridgeport Islanders this season, too, as he had six goals and 15 points in 20 contests. The Kraken have been quite active with waivers this season, as they previously claimed Karson Kuhlman and Alex Barre-Boulet (who was later re-claimed by TB) through them, too. This isn't too surprising to see from them, as they are an expansion team simply trying to build their roster. Alas, let's see how Czarnik performs with his new team.
