Flyers Rumors: Cam York Benched Due To 'Intense Confrontation'
Watching Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Cam York sit on the bench for the entire game Thursday night—in uniform—without playing a single second, was an odd sight. What gives? According to insider Elliotte Friedman on his 32 Thoughts podcast, York was benched due to an 'intense confrontation' with the now-departed John Tortorella in the coach's final game. Tortorella and York got into a pretty intense, heated confrontation. I don't believe it was physical... But it was intense. As a result, it was just another layer on top of the whole situation (leading to Tortorella's pink slip & York's benching). After the game, interim head coach Brad Shaw, who has taken over for Tortorella, said “It was just a disciplinary issue. I’m not going to go beyond that.” He did reveal that York would be back in the lineup (and actually on the ice) for their game on Saturday against the Buffalo Sabres. Told from a team source that "it's fair to say" something happened between Cam York and John Tortorella in Toronto, that contributed to the coach's dismissal on Thursday morning. Was put to me that "they probably both crossed the line."— Kevin Kurz (@KKurzNHL) March 28, 2025 In Tortorella's final game as Philadelphia Flyers head coach, York was benched for most of their 7-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs after playing just three minutes. But as it turns out, York's confrontation with him cost Torts his job, and York another game on the pine. "They probably both crossed the line," was the report that Flyers beat writer Kevin Kurz got.The 24-year-old former first-round draft pick, York will be a restricted free agent after the season, wrapping up a two-year $1.6 million AAV bridge deal.
