2 years ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

The Edmonton Oilers are looking to hit the reset button as we just passed the half-way mark of the season. With a new coach behind the bench, general manager Ken Holland is now ready to turn his attention to the trade market. According to Darren Dreger of TSN, the Oilers are looking for a right-handed defenseman to play in their top four. While goaltending is also an issue, Dreger sees the RHD the biggest concern for the hockey club. Let's take a look at a couple of options for the Oilers:Colin Miller, Buffalo SabresThe Sabres defender is currently rehabbing from an undisclosed surgery however will be ready to game action in early to mid-March. The trade deadline is slated for March 21 and the Oilers may have a short-term option in Miller. The 29-year-old mobile defenseman is making under $4 million and is a pending free agent. A move to Edmonton would give him a great chance to audition for next season and if he ends up sticking, it's likely Tyson Barrie gets moved in the summer time. For now, the Oilers should consider Miller and adding his all around game to their core.Damon Severson, New Jersey DevilsSeverson is an intriguing option for the Oilers as he's potentially the perfect fit for their hockey club and he's signed through next season at $4.1 million. The Devils are listening to trade offers and Holland is one of the many executives rumored to be interested. The 27-year-old Brandon, Manitoba native has enjoyed himself a fine season in 2021-22, recording 26 points in 46 games. Edmonton won't part with youngster Evan Bouchard in any deal but do have some prospects who would get New Jersey's attention. It's likely any deal for Severson will look much the same as past deals for Alec Martinez and Jake Muzzin, where three pieces head the other way including either one first-round pick or two second-rounders along with a prospect. We'll see if Holland and the Oilers get off their wallets and stop wasting McDavid and Draisaitl's prime.Photo credit:  Tom Horak-USA TODAY Sports...
