NHL Rumors: Flyers Have Some Big Decisions To Make With Their RFAs
The Philadelphia Flyers are heading into a offseason with several key restricted free agents needing new contracts, according to Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff. Among them are forwards Noah Cates and Tyson Foerster, as well as defenseman Cam York, all of whom are expected to play big roles in the team’s future. Cates, 26, has rebounded from an injury-shortened season to establish himself as one of the Flyers' top centers, tallying 10 goals and 22 points in 47 games. He could be in line for a four- or five-year deal with an annual value in the $3–3.5 million range, a contract similar to Nicolas Roy’s with the Vegas Golden Knights. Foerster, 23, is expected to receive a bridge deal between $2–3 million annually for two or three years. You're right. And yeah, Tyson Foerster from the Philadelphia Flyers is very good defensively again. Could be a good TOP6 two-way winger for many years. https://t.co/CjpNJatHYo pic.twitter.com/TehvZDWa4U— Rono (@RonoAnalyst) December 30, 2024 Cam York, 24, is set to command the largest contract of the three, with the Flyers likely aiming for a long-term extension in the $6–7 million annual range. Travis Sanheim’s $6.25 million AAV deal is seen as a benchmark, though York is not yet viewed as a top-pair defenseman by the organization. Di Marco notes that York’s development and consistency have positioned him as a cornerstone for the Flyers' blue line moving forward. Meanwhile, Tyson Foerster has been a steady presence this season, contributing 13 goals and 23 points in 50 games while forming a solid line with Cates and Bobby Brink."It's unbelievable"Garnet Hathaway talks about the growth of Noah Cates pic.twitter.com/hoforL4mg6— PHLY Flyers (@PHLY_Flyers) January 14, 2025 Beyond the RFA negotiations, the Flyers are fielding trade inquiries for veteran defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen, who carries a $5.1 million cap hit through 2026. Teams like Toronto, Vancouver, and Winnipeg have shown interest, but Philadelphia is reportedly holding firm on a first-round pick as the asking price.Photo Credit: Eric Hartline-Imagn Images...
